A ceremonial necklace from the North Coast of West Papua, featuring a dense cowrie shell collar, spiralled conus shell centrepiece with vibrant bead detailing, a kina shell crescent, and dramatic cassowary feather fringing. A powerful piece of Papuan coastal heritage and a showstopper for any tribal or Oceanic art collection.
A magnificent ceremonial pectoral necklace from the North Coast of West Papua, Indonesia, handcrafted using some of the most prized materials in Melanesian culture. The sweeping collar is densely layered with cowrie shells — a longstanding symbol of wealth and status across the Pacific — while the centrepiece showcases a beautifully spiralled conus shell surrounded by intricate seed and trade bead work in vibrant red, green, and gold. A large kina shell crescent anchors the lower section, dramatically fringed with sweeping cassowary feathers. Pieces like this were traditionally worn by community leaders and figures of prestige during ceremonies and important gatherings. A breathtaking example of North Coastal Papuan adornment craft and a truly statement piece for any tribal art or Oceanic collection
